Aims & Scope

Digital Applied Linguistics (DAL) is the only journal that sits at the intersection of applied linguistics and digital interfaces. It serves as a platform for interdisciplinary research aimed at addressing language-related challenges and solutions in digital contexts. In our rapidly evolving digital age, traditional theories and practices in applied linguistics have struggled to keep pace with advancements in science and technology. DAL seeks to publish papers that resonate with a broad readership, promoting connections among scholarly discourses, theories, and research methods from various fields in AL, while addressing contemporary issues in our global digital landscape. Research in DAL has practical implications for institutional practices across education, the workplace, healthcare, legal systems, and media. This international journal explores how digital learning environments and individual learner characteristics affect the language learning process. Understanding learner behaviors, cognitive and emotional processing, and neurological factors can greatly improve language teaching methods grounded in digital environments. The journal’s interdisciplinary nature enables it to integrate cognitive, social, affective, and neural aspects of second language learning with cutting-edge technologies such as virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI), and big data analytics. DAL welcomes contributions that critically examine current and innovative theories and practices in the field, promoting a deeper understanding of language in the digital age.

Peer Review Process

Digital Applied Linguistics (DAL) uses a double-blind peer review process where manuscripts that are sent out for review (i.e., those that pass through the initial check for length, quality, and relevance by the Editor-in-Chief) will be sent to at least two reviewers who will provide their feedback to the Editor-in-Chief in a timely manner, preferably within three weeks. In the case of a split decision, additional reviewers will be assigned to the manuscript to ensure a fair review process. Please note that this may delay the final outcome of the review. For special issues, the guest editor(s) of the issue will assign reviewers and recommend an outcome to the Editor-in-Chief, who makes the final decision about whether to accept the manuscript.
