Submission Guidelines for Special Issue (Conference Papers)

17 AUGUST 2026 UPDATE Call for papers from JALTCALL 2026

We are now accepting manuscript submissions based on presentations (regular presentations, poster presentations, and workshops) given at JALTCALL 2026. If you presented at this year’s conference, we look forward to receiving your paper! For further details, see the submission guidelines below.

● We are currently only accepting manuscripts based on presentations at this year’s conference. For any other submissions, please wait until a relevant call for papers is announced.

● Manuscripts should generally be structured in the standard research paper format (i.e. an introduction section that includes a very brief literature review, followed by methods, results, discussion, and conclusion sections). However, for teaching practice or discussion papers, authors may use their own discretion in structuring the manuscript.

● A list of references and a short biography of the author(s) should also be included. APA style (as described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th Edition) referencing conventions should be followed throughout the manuscript, except where the manuscript template (see below) tells you to do otherwise.

● Please note that while the topic of AI is of great relevance to our field, we nevertheless expect all submissions to be essentially human-authored. Responsible use of AI as a writing and research tool is permitted, but it is important to exercise common sense and to maintain academic integrity in this regard. Ideas, structure, and wording should generally be the work of the author, and manuscripts may be rejected at the discretion of the editorial team if there is reasonable cause to suspect AI abuse. From this volume, all authors will be required to include a short statement on AI usage within the manuscript. For further information on AI usage, please refer to the Castledown Author Guidelines of the Use of Generative AI.

● The total length of a manuscript should be 2,000 to 3,000 words, including all of the sections and additional materials mentioned above. Please note that manuscripts exceeding 3,000 words will not be accepted for review.

● Please download and carefully read the JALTCALL Trends manuscript template in MS Word format and then compose the content directly in this document without changing the formatting. Once the content has been thoroughly checked and proofread, the manuscript may be submitted for review using the submission link on the JALTCALL Trends website.

● Submissions will be subject to a robust single-blind peer review process (i.e. reviewers will know the identities of the authors, but authors will not know the identities of the reviewers). Authors will have the chance to revise their manuscript after each review round. However, the editorial team reserves the right to decline submissions that fail to meet the standards or scope of the journal.

● By submitting a manuscript, authors agree to review at least two other manuscripts if requested to do so, and to complete these reviews within two weeks of receiving the request. Since we rely on authors’ contributions as reviewers for conference paper volumes, authors who do not complete their assigned reviews may have their manuscripts withdrawn from consideration.

● To ensure a timely publication cycle, all manuscripts must be submitted by Sunday, 30 August midnight (anywhere in the world).

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge. There are no fees to submit to or to publish in the journal.

Publication Ethics

Note that all submissions to this journal must be original work that has not been published or currently under review elsewhere. Manuscripts that have been published as pre-prints may be considered as being already published. All submissions are checked for plagiarism on submission by iThenticate.
